I love the little wood letters that people hang on their baby's wall that spell out the baby's name. I priced these wood letters at Walmart. They are almost $4 each. That doesn't sound like such a bad price. But if you factor in the fact that I would need 9 letters and would still have to buy the paint, that is a lot of money. So I decided to get creative! I tested out a few different ideas and with my husband's help, this is what I finally decided on. I spent less than half the amount I would have spent on the wood blocks and I actually like it a lot more. I would have spent even less than I did if I wouldn't have been so stuck on the idea that I wanted to use those 3 colors. Only a few pieces of each color come in a pack of foam, so I ended up having to buy 3 packs in order to have enough for her name. It still ended up being much cheaper and I have lots of left over foam to do other things with.

Granny Square Baby Blanket
I taught myself how to make a granny square. I got the bright idea afterwards to keep going and not stop. So eventually I would end up with a huge blanket. Well, if you've learned anything about me yet, I am not very good at completing really big projects. So this blanket ended up with all my other unfinished products. I recently started cleaning out the room that had all my crafty stuff in it because it's going to be my little girl's room. I began looking through my crate of unfinished projects and came across this. When I saw it, I thought why don't I just finish it off where I ended it and it would be the perfect size for a baby blanket. I'm not sure if you can tell from the picture or not, but I used 3 different colors - turquoise, off white, and pale yellow. I did two times around with each color. I am very pleased with that decision and I think it looks great this size.

Foam Picture Frames
I want my little girl's room to be decorated in kittens and puppies. Believe it or not, there aren't a lot of things for a nursery that have kittens or puppies on them. I don't really see this a problem since I love crafts anyway. I decided since my theme is kittens and puppies, I should go ahead and put some pictures of our cats and dogs on the wall too. These are super easy to make. First I printed off a 3.5 x 5 in. picture of Shadow. Then I glued it to a piece of black foam that I cut to the same exact size of the picture. Next I glued pink foam that I had pre-cut to the size I wanted to fit around the picture. I then measured out to where I could center her name and wrote that one with a Sharpie pen. I added the little flower with a glittery center for a girly touch since this is a little girl's room. I just printed off a flower template off the internet and traced it on my foam before cutting it out. Finally, I finished it all off with a few paw print stickers. I've made 2 of these frames so far, so I have a few more to make until I have all our furry babies completed. I plan on posting a picture of the wall after I have completed all of them. I've held this up to the wall to see what it's going to look like and it looks really good in front of the purple wall.

Scratch Mittens
My husband and I found out 2 weeks ago that we are having a little girl. I have so many things I plan to make and am wondering where I'm going to get the time to make it all. So far I have made her a few hats and these scratch mittens. I made these mittens from a pattern that I found at crochetpatterncentral.com. They have tons of free patterns. Although I enjoy to make a lot of things on my own, if I want to work from a pattern, that is usually where I will find it.
Maternity Skeleton Shirt
My boss told me about these maternity shirts a few weeks ago. I went online to order one, but was a little worried about the sizes. See, I'm a little "fluffy" and refuse to wear shirts that are close fitted. I did a little research and found a way that I can make one myself and was able to save almost $20 as well. I'm quite proud of the way it turned out.
I learned how to make it from this blog: http://keepingmycents.blogspot.com/2010/10/halloween-skeleton-and-fetus-maternity.html
